Restaurant Reviews go international with the New Taj Mahal

No, I have never been to India. But I have been to London England many times and one of my favorite restaurants there is the New Taj Mahal. This very little whole in the wall restaurant is tucked away in a little alley by Green Park. Both the area and the restaurant have some very interesting history to boot! A long time ago, the block the restaurant is on used to be a place where people would buy pigs and have them slaughtered. And the restaurant first opened the day Kennedy was shot, after an hour they closed out of respect. The newspaper headlines still hang in the windows.

With all that morbid history floating around, and the dark small upstairs area, you would think the restaurant would not be a good place to eat. But when you go down the narrow staircase into the basement, to a space richly decorated and just big enough to fit about a dozen tables, you instantly change your mind.

I first went with my parents when we visited in high school, and since then I've brought family and friends back. Everyone has enjoyed whatever they ordered, from the spicy to sweet curries and everything in between. The fresh homemade naan is so good you'll be asking for more (and having to wait too because they can hardly keep up with the demand). But my favorite part is the multi colored basmati rice. How they do it, I have no idea, but there are pink, blue, green, yellow, orange, etc. dots in it.

I'm not a big fan of Indian food, but this restaurant is probably my favorite Indian restaurant of all time. Too bad for Nick it's half-way across the world.

Address: 2B White Horse St, London, England
